(Updated) White Dwarf Images Are Starting to Leak

Sadly, only one has rules for 40k.  Plague drones are jet pack cavalry (whoa), LD 7, not fearless but has Daemonic Instability and may deep strike.  No Eternal Warrior. More as I can find it.

That's 12+3d6" of movement in a single turn.  With three wounds, T5 and S4 poisoned attacks, they appear to be solid harrasment troops, but not super killy without a character.  And they do not appear to have Feel No Pain.  Daemon of Nurgle means shrouded, which sucks because they're not jetbikes and don't get a jink save to stack on top of it, nor do they have ranged attacks to take advantage of relentless.  Nor do they have a high enough initiative to sweep most stuff.

I liken them to Chaos Spawn in terms of their use.  Hopefully they are priced similarly.

The more I think about them, the more I figure that they're supposed to scoot across the board darting from area terrain to area terrain to take advantage of shrouded and be annoying.  If you can do as much, they're tough as nails to kill.  Leave them in the open and they're meat for splinter rifles, demolisher cannons and railguns.

So Beasts are beasts now, and super weird.  Very defensively-oriented unit that seems to be there to protect your Plaguebearers from charges.  Strange indeed.  With 4 wounds and It Will Not Die, they're fairly hardy so long as they don't run afoul of a Vindicator.  Not much punchier than they already are, but we don't know what kind of upgrades they can take, if any.

Plague Drones can take upgrades, so may be meaner than they appear.  Do not panic.

Daemon Princes are indeed HQs with psychic powers and tons of upgrade options.

Considering there are four heralds in the army list, they appear to still be a 2 for 1 choice.

It does look like he managed to get a lot of stuff into the army at the points total they played, so things may be reasonably priced.

The Flaming Chariot is purported as the best shooting unit in the codex.  It's probably Land Speeder fragile, however.

Soul Grinders can take marks which may or may not do the same things as being a Daemon of such and such god.  The claw and sword do different things now.

Beasts have Deep Strike, which means that Daemonic Assault is still present in some form or another.  The Daemon Prince has a Portalglyph that no doubt has something to do with it.

Khorne Cannons are S8, AP4, 36" large blast.  BS5 is odd, but that AP4 thing is a problem.  Maybe they can shoot and charge???

Wonder what a Locus and an Exalted Locus does exactly?

Exciting stuffs.

  1. It really depends on their points cost, but these rules seem very weak. If they are in the 25-30 point range, they will see play. If they are in the 40 point range, I can't see them as being that useful. I assume they're going to be in the FA slot.

Unless there are some hidden rules (such as their plague swords being better than before, or Daemon of Nurgle having hidden rules attached with it) or they have good options, these models seem really bad. Add on to the fact that they cost $60 for 3, and they're just asking to sit on a shelf.

    1. Have to agree. Ideally they'd have a shooting attack or something, but otherwise they're just not doing anything useful.

However! Much depends on the slot, points and special rules. A shame there's another week to wait for the book.

I've a Q. Could it be that GW have realised the internet releases everything before they do and has some web site only releases lined up?

I'm still hoping (in vain) for plastic greater daemons.

    2. I wasn't planning to get them anyway, but now I don't feel like I'm missing out since they're just a harassment unit. I'm betting on 35 points per model because they can deep strike. 30 seems plausible because they're very similar to Chaos Spawn. Their downfall is that even if they win combat, I2 doesn't let them sweep most of the time.

  2. 5++ save? No Fearless? No EW?

Welp, if this is the future of daemons, I'm going to have to think about a different direction to go in with my Death Guard allies. I was avoiding IG because I don't want to have to build another guard army.

  4. Very Bulky is a little puzzling on a cavalry unit.

  5. I wouldn't panic at all. We need the whole book to make a decision. Besides, how do we not know that the front of their book says, "The follow apply to every model in this codex: Eternal Warrior, Fearless, Fear, 5++ save, etc"?

We don't. So just chill out. Otherwise, sell your daemons to me. :-)

  6. this is... srs, i cant believe it. srs? if instability is just a bit like the one from the past they are absolutley sucking dipshit. i mean, the overflowing wounds from morale test was already hard to bear on daemons with LD 10. No shooting attack as it seams makes them a laugh of garbage. the only reason i can imagine this things to be useful if the rest gets it up the ass from our beloved kelly (can brain cancer lead to such designs?) even more, so they are the "strongest" unit in the dex. Absolutly disappointed, jut to get rid of the old daemon stuff from that guy they fired they just throw everything overboard? No love for the player wo like their army it seems...

  7. So, updated pictures from Faeit212. 5th picture from the bottom has squads and upgrades. All thr way to the right, Soul Grinder. It says Soul Grinder of Tzeentch. Anyone have thoughts on that? Upgrading different stats of the Soul Grinder sounds interesting.

    1. I'd wager it just lets you reroll 1's on saves, but that is interesting. If true, a Nurgle Soul Grinder with shrouded behind an Aegis would be solid. However, that makes me wonder if it dedications to gods does something different for vehicles.

I expect them to price out around higher than now with phlegm and whatnot. It appears the claw and sword do different things now.

    2. Yeah. Mine is modeled with the claw.bi liked it better. I'm thinking it might be like FW Decimator and Marks if anything. But a Raging Soul Grinder (Khorne) might be fun too.

    3. Another thing I noticed. 1 Daemon Prince, 4 Heralds. Heralds = Royal Court? If thats the case, HQs aren't as cluttered as it seems.

  8. This list has 104 non-vehicle units and 3 vehicles even when taking squads of 15+ and adding a bunch of new upgrades to tease us. I think this hints points reductions.

  10. they are prob similar to the old fantasy daemon book. ie when a khorne herald joined a unit of bloodletters they gained hatred one for each god

    1. One thing I'm pretty sure of, Slaanesh hating Khorne is a much better deal for Slaanesh than it is for Khorne cuz Slaanesh has more attacks and higher I. Same with Nurgle vs. Tzeentch.

  11. I heard a rumor that flamers will not be able to fire over watch. If true, Beasts of Nurgle would work well in tandem in them.
